Prague, in the heart of Europe

If you bear in mind the following useful advice, your stay in Prague will be enjoyable and you will bring home with you many happy memories. More information can be found in other subsections on the right.

1) When going on a tour of the city, wear comfortable shoes. Even hardened travellers can get tired from the hard pavement, city air, many new impressions and of course Czech beer, too.

2) Plan your trip to town and then choose a public transport pass in accordance with your plan. Without a knowledge of the Czech language public transport may be a bit of an adventure! Don't hesitate to ask for advice or help. We suggest you ask younger people, as most of them speak English. With the older generation there might be a bit of a language barrier.

3) A map of the city will be useful.

4) Some of the sights in Prague, e.g. the Charles Bridge, the Prague Castle, Jewish Town etc., are extremely popular and can get crowded. It is a good idea to visit them on weekdays, especially during the mornings.

5) One more good advice: Not much has changed since 1399, when the Italian scholar Uberto Decebria wrote:...The pickpockets here are exceedingly skillful, and unless you beware, they will steal shoes off your feet... Prague is a large city and it is like any other European metropolis: when visiting, you have to be careful and watch your belongings – as they say, better safe than sorry. Take care especially on the public transport, in a crowd, in a shop, when trying on clothes or shoes, in a restaurant.
